One of the best kept secrets about high end cutters is their ability to engrave and emboss various metals! Okay, it isn't that big of a secret, but it is not done as often as cutting or embossing paper. This is one of our personal favorites! With the Engraving tool or Embossing tool, you can etch, deboss, or emboss your design into just about anything, and it looks great!

Most things, whether metal or plastic, can be etched. A metal needs to be thick enough to not be torn easily, yet soft enough to be etched on. Since we doubt most people have heavy duty metal cutters in their homes, it also needs to be easily cut with scissors. Among our thicker metals, we carry one with an aluminum finish for etching and one made of copper, that can be both embossed and etched. We love it, and we know you will too!

Metal isn't just for engraving. Metal foils not only cut well with just about any machine, but they also can be used in embossing projects. When you have completed cutting or embossing the foil, just adhere the foil to your substrate using a heat source such as a heat gun or an iron. It doesn't matter whether it is fabric, paper, or plastic - it sticks great on just about any surface. It will even allow you to sew into it to add further stability when using it on fabrics. (As a side note, make sure you are using a VERY sticky mat when cutting this!)
